Another Step in the Right Direction
It is said that every journey begins with one step. This month another step is being taken in the fight against Lewy Body Dementia (LBD). Throughout the month of August during the televised coverage of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Parade around the country a 30 second commercial about LBD and the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA) will air. Despite the short timeframe of the commercial it is an important step forward in this battle.
If you have been a regular reader of this blog you have read about Lewy before. You know that my mother was diagnosed with it around 2005 and at the time resources and help was scarce. If you are new to the blog you may be wondering what LBD is and why this step in the journey is important. LBD is a form of dementia that currently affects more than a million people in the United States. It is the second leading cause of dementia behind Alzheimer’s. Although it was first identified in the early 1900s it is not as well known as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s despite sharing similar symptoms.
The LBDA was formed in 2003 to further research and education in regards to LBD. And, the LBDA provides valuable resources and support to Lewy sufferers and their families. The work that the Association does is vitally important in bringing this devastating disease to light and leading the march in finding answers.
